"Club Unicorn" goes viral

If you haven't seen this yet. My wife shared this couple's story with me yesterday, and it's worth spreading. It's very quickly making the rounds in the LDS blogosphere, and their story is pretty awesome. Obviously gay issues aren't the same as trans issues, but the fact that people are even openly talking about these kinds of issues represents a huge step forward in my mind. And the fact that my Sweetheart thought to share it with me is significant as well, but that's the subject for another post.

  1. Wow, Josh and Lolly's post was incredibly thoughtful and well written. It has so much application to our trans-situation in my mind. It is great to see this dialog and I feel so healthy to find Latter-day Saints in loving committed gospel centered families and effectively dealing with attractions or gender issues in such appropriate and joy filled ways!

My sweetheart and I both read with interest and amazement Ty and Danielle Mansfield's article in May/June 2012's LDS Living of all places, and it sits on our living room table with our collection of recent Church magazines.

In fact it was after reading their article that I actually started to have hope that I might be able to find other healthy similar minded LDS folk dealing with gender issues like me. That hope was very quickly rewarded with finding you and C and the other blogs I have been following, what a difference this has made for me.

So yes these writings have been very helpful even if SSA in topic, it opens such an important dialog. Thanks again!

    Your friend, Laurie.

  2. The book they mentioned “Voices of Hope” by Ty Mansfield I have started reading. There is an essay in there by a man that goes by the pseudonym John Allan who is transgender. I know John from the Northstar transgender forum and he is an amazing individual. This is a book I think every later day saint should read. It will open their eye to the possibility that there are others in the church that suffer from these “hush hush we don’t talk about disorders because what we see in the media goes against church standards so everyone with this disorder must fall into that category” (sorry for the run on), and are trying to live within the standards of the church no matter how hard.

  3. I agree with both of you that more people in the Church need to hear these stories. It's so easy to let the extreme left / extreme right new media wash over us and color our perceptions of other people's situations. That faithful gay and trans folks are starting to come forward and tell their stories is remarkable; what an amazing time to be alive! I wish them well, and will be following their blog closely. As for the Mansfields' story in LDS Living, I saw it briefly but haven't read it in full yet (my wife has), and I do think the book will end up on my Kindle wishlist shortly.
